“I’m here to learn to love my arms a bit more” – Alana.
We met Alana while attending the Taryn Brumfit Embrace Yourself Tour in Newcastle where women were encouraged to be more accepting of their bodies. Our friends, Birdsnest also had a pop-up store for women to shop while they learned that loving feeling. It’s clear to us the evening drew out the stylish set from all over the Hunter region and Alana was a standout.
Reasons this outfit works:
- Texture. Alana has blended a patent leather bag with velvet shoes. If they were both the same, the bag wouldn’t have the depth and the image would look flat.
- Grounded basic. A look like this needs to have one piece that is the definition of understated. If Alana weren’t wearing a simple black tee it would tip the outfit over the edge and be too busy.
- Lippie. As this is a muted look, Alana has wisely made it pop with some red lippie. If red isn’t your colour then simply make sure you enhance your lips and cheeks if you’re feeling dull.
- Most importantly, confidence! Alana tells us some of these pieces are second-hand, meaning she trusts her eye! And she is simply having fun with layering. Fashion should be enjoyed!
