Looking for hard and fast fashion rules? You won’t find them in Kristen Todd’s book because frankly, they’re a load of junk. We also don’t subscribe to the old adages about body shapes being likened to fruits because despite the “rules” sometimes an apple can wear a fit-and-flare dress and that same apple may have some features like a pear. Which makes us all fruit salads, really! Styling is not an exact science with perfect equations, it’s a visual medium that involves a bit of trial and error and often simply comes down to personal taste mixed with a healthy dose of confidence. And these are the motivating factors behind Kristen Todd’s debut book, Style Sessions: perfecting the art of dressing.
“Figure types guides don’t work, no one fits into fruit shapes. Flaunt your assets and put the things you don’t like in the background. Don’t worry just about the silhouette as a whole, think about individual parts.” – Kristen

Dee – is a perfect example that your age doesn’t define your style. Dee dresses like a modern woman rather than a concept of her age. I love how her individual style comes through with accessories, while still wearing shapes that flatter and are ageless. We keep her base layers classic, they just have to be shapes that suit you rather than a trend, and play with accessories. Dee’s ankle boot has a little kitten heel which gives her petite stature a little lift, putting her slightly onto her toes to deliver a long leg line and a couple of extra centimetres.
“Don’t worry about dressing according to your age, don’t be guided by numbers, be guided by the mirror and when things change personally that’s when we adjust style. It’s about being present with where you’re at rather than a number. We women are so interesting, the rate at which we age is different, some of us have firm arms or great legs. It’s an individual journey.” – Kristen.

Lastly, the black necklace draws the eye down and elongates the body.
“Our complexion is forever changing thanks to tanning, seasons or makeup. Our skin, hair, eyebrows aren’t set in stone so the colours that you wear depend on your changing canvas. Those old rules are too rigid so I always say just hold it up to your face, if you like it, wear it! If you love the colour and it doesn’t suit your complexion then don’t wear it around your face break it up with a scarf or wear it in a skirt or pant. ” – Kristen
